Mark Campion: Based at one of the most historic training yards in the country, Mark Campion’s Whitewall House Stables is steeped in racing folklore. The yard was originally made famous by the legendary trainer John Scott, who between the years of 1827 and 1862 produced the winners of 40 Classic races, a total which included five Epsom Derbies, eight Oaks and a staggering 16 St Legers. Nestled close to Langton Wold gallops, come along to meet Mark on the day, whose friendly racing club offers up shares in Meldrum Way and Mountain Rapid, providing a route into racehorse ownership that is accessible for all.
Mick Easterby: A legend on the northern horseracing scene, Mick Easterby has sent out over 3,000 winners from his base at New House Farm where he trains across both National Hunt and Flat codes. Stable stars to look out for include the promising three year old Elysian Flame; Where’s Jeff, who has scored three times this season; NH bumper winner Enlighten, and the smart prospect Sam’s Gunner, who was only once out of the top three during his 2018/19 campaign.
Tim Easterby: Tim’s Habton Grange Stables is home to over 100 horses and boasts a wealth of equine talent. Don’t miss the chance to meet Tim’s top performer on the flat this year, Copper Knight, alongside Group 3 winning Wells Farhh Go, Listed winner Vintage Brut and thirteen year old National Hunt stalwart Ifandbutwhynot.
Lucy Egerton: Visitor’s to Lucy’s dual purpose yard at Flint Hall Moor Lane are sure of a warm welcome on the day and her team of National Hunt horses are in great order ahead of the jump season proper. Horses to look out for are the classy moving Wynford, and the scopey and improving Welsh Rarebit who gave the yard their first runner at the Aintree Grand National Festival this Spring, alongside Orobas who is the charge of one of Lucy’s racing clubs, The Northern Belles.
Brian Ellison: As one of the leading dual purpose trainers in the country, Brian Ellison has an exciting string of horses for you to see on the day. Don’t miss your chance to meet the top class 2018 Cheltenham Cotswold Chase and Charlie Hall Chase winner Definitely Red, Cheltenham Greatwood Hurdle victor Nietzsche, dual-Galway winner Baraweez and yard favourite Top Notch Tonto. Up and coming horses to watch are Windsor Avenue and Ahorsewithnoname.
Richard Fahey: As one of the most prolific trainers in the country, Richard Fahey’s impressive base is a must see during Malton Open Day. The yard has enjoyed over 100 winners so far this season and visitors can expect to meet this year’s Acomb winner Valdermoro, Royal Ascot hero Space Traveller and Group 2 winning Forest Ranger, alongside last year’s Group 1 Quipco British Champion Sprint Stakes winner Sands of Mali, amongst the residents at Musley Bank.
Roger Fell: Roger Fell’s Arthington Barn Stables boast fantastic facilities for his equine residents, within which the health and happiness of his charges is of foremost importance. Look out for the consistent four year old Tamreer, classy Club Wexford and Dapper Man, who has scored four times this season so far.
Suzzanne France: The emphasis is on working with each horse as an individual at Suzzanne France’s small, friendly outfit, Newstart Racing. Head to Suzzanne’s yard to meet stalwart Ad Vitam, who at 11 years old has chalked up an incredible 96 throughout his career, with a top 3 strike rate of 31%. Ad Vitam is on course to make it 100 runs by the end of the season, a testament to Suzzanne’s care and training.
Michael Herrington: Michael training yard is very much a family run affair, featuring 20 boxes and a fantastic array of training facilities including a walker, lunge pen, circular gallop and plenty of field turnout to keep his horses happy. Meet consistent performer Steelriver and, winner of four races this summer, Street Poet at Michael’s Norton Grange base where you are assured to be made to feel very welcome.
Ollie Pears: Norton trainer Ollie and his wife Vicky operate a small, friendly yard at The Old Farm House, which has sent out 183 winners since Ollie started training in 2007. Look out for the delightfully named and promising two year old Harry Love and peer Blitzle, alongside Placebo Effect on the day. Be sure to meet this year’s winner of the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Dedication to Racing Award and local legend John Bottomley whilst you’re there too.
John Quinn: John is opening his Highfield yard this year, from which his team have enjoyed a fantastic season so far. Star performer Liberty Beach has posted a list of impressive performances in her career so far, including Group 3 victory at Goodwood in July, following on from a 4th in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot earlier in the year. Most recently she was 2nd in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes at York and looks a superstar filly in the making. Safe Voyage has notched up a treble this summer from just five runs, and is joined by the likes of El Astronaute as horses to look out for on the day.
Nigel Tinkler: Nigel’s Woodland Stables have provide the base for him train successfully across both National Hunt and Flat codes over the years, seeing him return Cheltenham festival spoils and Group winners alike. Visitors on the day should take their chance to meet the yard’s top performer this year Kaeso, alongside the consistent Citron Major; Ginger Jam, who has won six races already this season; Archie Perkins, who himself is on a treble from eight runs this term; and Triple Distilled who recently completed a double at York.
